We have to see the use of the verb like “Gustar”  separate because it is not conjugated like other verbs.  They don’t conjugate is always in the third person either in the present or past tense (gusta or gustó). The verb gustar is not the only one that behaves this way, also encantar (to love), importar (to care), interesar (to interest), costar (is difficult), and more that we added in the following link with vocabulary and more explanations.
